Foundation stone of Sheikh Hasina Institute of Frontier Technology in Madaripur laid

Chief Whip of Bangladesh Parliament Noor-e-Alam Chowdhury and State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak, MP laid the foundation stone for the Sheikh Hasina Institute of Frontier Technology (SHIFT) in Madaripur’s Shibchar upazila on Tuesday.

 

Zunaid Ahmed Palak said at the event that the government is determined to make Madaripur a modern and smart city through the country’s first specialised and dedicated academic institution based on frontier technology.

“After building Digital Bangladesh, now we want to take Bangladesh to the ranks of developed countries. We want to create ‘Smart Bangladesh’ by 2041, which will be a true representation of Sonar Bangla,” he added.

 

He further said that the Sheikh Hasina Institute of Frontier Technology will focus on subjects such as biotechnology, nanotechnology, neuro technology, cyber security, artificial intelligence, internet of robotics things, blockchain, data science, hyper-automation, technological ethics, behaviour and experience engineering, and innovation and entrepreneurship.

Noor-e-Alam Chowdhury expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for taking the initiative of setting up the Sheikh Hasina Institute of Frontier Technology (SHIFT) in Madaripur.

“If the youth of this region can be developed as skilled human resources in IT, their employment opportunities will be created. As a result, our youth will be able to earn foreign currency from within the country,” he said.

Bikarna Kumar Ghosh, managing director of the Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority (grade-1), said, “The institute will be set up on 70.34 acres of land as the country’s first zero waste and environmentally sustainable campus.”

Project Director Syed Zahurul Islam (joint secretary) said the main infrastructures of the institution will be a six-storey research building, a four-storey academic building, a three-storey administrative building, dormitories for teachers and students and six specialised labs.
